A little programming outside the box… or maybe we mostly exist outside the box and this is really inside the box…. mind blown. One of my favorite quotes is from Aristotle. It says, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” You know something smart is being said when the sentence itself has more than one comma. I may just start putting commas in place just for the heck of it. What Aristotle is saying is exactly what we do within the parameters of our four walls. CrossFit best prepares us for life, and it does it well. Doing the common uncommonly well. That itself, I believe is so profound I had it engraved on our PR Bell. We prepare for the unknown and unknowable. So, when the pandemic hit us first globally, we had very little time to plan, prepare, and accept the imminent struggles and difficult times (See what I did there… four commas!). We then had it hit us locally, we were arguably ready. Perhaps not the best choice of word, but I’m trying to make a point. We had been preparing and were ready as we could be for the unforeseeable days to come. I saw a post by one of our Legends, Leslie, about schooling your kids at home now and the hurdles that comes with that. She gave advice and a personal testimony about her past experience of what she has done that had worked, and what hadn’t. She has been home-schooling her children for years and when the pandemic hit… she was ready. When we open the blog and see the workout, and that impending thought that creeps in, we think, “Oh crap.” “Oh good grief!” “Seriously?!” and Erica’s fav, “*&%$.” But, we come in and do the work and are better for it. We grow, change, and sometimes transition here to something new. The changes we made within our beautiful local community were not by our choice… nor did we like them. And, we didn’t have to. I hated some of the contingencies I decided to enforce. To say we expected where we are now and what troubling times we had in front of us would be arrogant and misguided. But, we prepared to make them. And, I bet you’d be prepared to make them again. This gym is excellent. The individuals that walk those floors and use those bars are excellent. You repeatedly do so. It is no “act” that you come back the next day. It is a habit. And, how you do anything is how you do everything.
