Heroes Get Remembered, But Legends Never Die

I’ve been coaching for nearly a decade… nearly a third of my life. The moment you think you know everything is the moment you stop growing. I am learning constantly. Observing and measuring and making sense of this moment in time called life. With more insight comes more questions. I think that is because once you begin to have insight you start asking the right questions. Until you have some revelation… now that’s life changing. After what I know now there is no back slide. There’s no way I can go back to the conventional, colorless, and dull environment outside of CrossFit. What was the cause to CrossFit’s growth, or the influence it has had. I see commercials now about fitness and apparel companies and they all have some kind of movement oh so familiar to our world. I didn’t see that 10 years ago… I didn’t see that 5 years ago. There is an influence carried by those who are AUTHENTIC. Authenticity is powerful. Michael Jackson, Kurt Cobain, Elvis, Jimmy Buffet were all so authentic they changed music. In football there is a 2 year shelf life to an off-fence. A defensive coordinators comes in and breaks them down to stop the off-fence because they figure out what they are doing and how they are gonna do it. They are predictable. And nothing authentic is predictable except the fact that they are unpredictable. Have you ever met someone that as soon as they walk into a room the atmosphere changes? I have, many times. I see it in many of you. I see it in some of my family. They carry something with them that is powerful and effect the atmosphere around them. It effects us even. I have a friend that just makes me want to be a better person because I see “what” he is. He’s a changer of the atmosphere… and people gravitate towards that, because men see integrity there, and woman see truth in what they say. So, be authentic. Don’t let a culture or an environment be your influence, but influence your surroundings. My mom always said to be aware of your surroundings and I think that is important too. Be bright, be creative, be unique, and be the only person that can best demonstrate why you are here. To influence and not just be something seen on TV….. That’s another thing that bugs me! I think this is more prevalent in women, especially in our youth. Being told you need to fit a certain demographic and that is WRONG in every way! CrossFit shines in accepting everyone! You’ve thought, “you’re too… ” fill in the blank. We’ve all had them. I hate getting told, “You’re strong for your size.” But, CrossFit doesn’t care because it doesn’t matter. We’ll see that greatness in you!
