Heavy Squats Are A Bit Like Life

We have been building the capacity, loading, and tolerance on the back squat.  Tomorrow’s percentages will be heavy, so try your best to build to our high prescribed loads and ride it out!  Don’t rush… take your time… and access what you know about being aggressive and explosive out of the bottom.  It’s about momentum and proper application of force.  If we stall out, we lose the momentum and the ability to optimally drive against the external load that is placed on our back trying to take you down at the force of gravity…. 9.8m per second squared!  That’s about a third of my degree right there for ya.  Be tough like a bear, strong as an ox, and fight like a mountain lion!  Because that weight on the bar is going to do its best… so make sure you do yours.  That is why it is called resistance training, it is resisting against what the bar is trying to do… what it was designed to do, but you were designed to do more.  To be in control, not let your environment be in control of you.  That’s how you become an overcomer.  Don’t believe that there will never be storms… but how we respond to them, and what we do about it when we are in one.  Be the thermometer, not the thermostat.  I think that’s what Ben Bergeron means when he talks about reactions versus responses.  Reactions are emotional, rash, immediate out load thoughts.  Reponses are calculated, thought-out, intentional outcomes that you can be proud of when it’s all said and done.  As I am coming well into my 30’s, I feel as if I am finally beginning to see and understand some of these things.  “Food for thought,” I suppose… I’ve always disliked that phrase.
