Pray For El Paso

What devastating tragedy that occurred this weekend in our neighboring city.  A lot of us from this box are either from El Paso, spend time in El Paso, or have family in El Paso.  It is heartbreaking to think that the acts of that coward have changed the lives of so many families.  I heard stories about a mother that saved her child by shielding her two month old baby with her body from the shooter.  She was at Wal-Mart buying school supplies for her children for the tax free weekend.  Use the time we have by spending it purposefully.  Make time for family.  If it won’t be important in 5 years then it shouldn’t be a priority in our lives.  I’m not saying blow things off, but put first things first.  Your health is important, telling your family how much they mean to you and how you appreciate them is important.  Calling your mom just to tell her you love her would mean the world to her.  Buy some flowers for your wife just because it’s Monday, not just because it’s an anniversary, or a birthday, or valentines day.  I have a poster in my office from a quote of Abraham Lincoln saying, “And in the end it’s not the years in your life that counts; it’s the life in your years.” Not to be too eclectic, but on your death bed you will not be saying, “I should have worried about ____ more.” It’s going to be about being proud that you put first things first, and made the most of all the gifts we’ve been given.

Abraham Lincoln’s Remarks at Springfield, Illinois on November 20, 1860.
“Let us at all times remember that all American citizens are brothers of a common country, and should dwell together in the bonds of fraternal feeling.”
